Meet and Greet

For a happy and healthy enriched experience, we can not accept aggressive dogs, or dogs with an inability to interact socially with other dogs, or staff. In order to insure the happiness and well being of our guests, all dogs are required undergo a "Temperament Test" prior to being allowed to participate in daycare or boarding activities. This gives us the opportunity to ascertain the temperament and social skills of the dog, and to insure that the dog will enjoy participating in the services offered by Bark Bus Express.

What to expect during the evaluation process

Prior to conducting the temperament evaluation please fill out application so that we may go over any initial questions regarding your dogs history, previous owners, known issues, previous socialization and interactions with other dogs. We want to know as much as possible so we can make their transition into the pack as smooth and enjoyable as possible. This process generally takes 15-30 minutes, and once complete you may go about your daily activities while we conduct the evaluation with your dog.

There is no need for you to wait or be present while we conduct the temperament evaluation. Our experience has shown that we are able to gain a much more realistic and accurate assessment of the dogs social skills when the parents are not present as they are not focused on impressing mom and dad, but on interacting with other dogs.

The temperament evaluation begins with each staff member becoming personally acquainted with your dog, in a controlled environment away from the main pack, after which we will slowly introduce one of our control dogs known for their friendly nature and well rounded socialization skills. We will carefully monitor your dog for body language, posturing, and reactions during these critical first social interactions. Once the initial canine greeting is out of the way we will carefully introduce a toy into the situation to insure that there are no toy aggressive or possessive tendencies present, we will then give them both a treat in close proximity to check for food aggressiveness. We then observe for 15 minutes while the two of them interact, we will repeat this process 3 more times until we have a total of 4 control dogs and your pet interacting safely and socially. At which point we will introduce your doggie to the pack and observe for another 1-2 hours.

Safety while out on our Daily Excursions

  • Leashes- all dogs will have leashes/harnesses on at all times in areas without a safety perimeter.

  • Off-Leash Play Conducted- in areas designated as safe for romping and away from potential threats, i.e. other animals, non-staff, roads, etc. ALWAYS supervised.

  • Harnesses/Seat Belts- Dogs are transported with a variety of tools to keep them safe.

  • Weather- We are out all year round. The exceptions are lightning and below zero temperatures. In the event of in-climate weather and your dog is scheduled for care, we will accommodate them at home base for indoor play with plenty of outdoor access to a 1/2 acre fenced area.

Medical Emergencies

Bark Bus Express reserves the right to care for your pet immediately following a medical need. This requires the closest animal hospital, which may or may not be your veterinarian of choice. We travel in about a 30 mile radius to various parks which in turn makes the options of potential hospitals too many to list. Just know that every measure will be taken to safely transport and care for your dog in a moments notice.
